Spring is here. What a great time of year, with baby animals and bright flowers and a hint of warmth in the air. Oh, and what's that other thing we have at this time every year? Oh yes, the Annual Sports Exchange! We would love to see lots of you coming along on this, so please read the details below and then register if you haven't already done so.

Annual Sports Exchange - September 27 - 29
This weekend will see MOA take a bus trip to Dunedin to meet our
friends at Dunedin City Council’s social club, and enjoy a couple of
days’ of fun, games, sports, frolics, parties, and general fun times. If
you have been on one of these annual sports weekends before, you’ll
already know what to expect, but this is how it usually goes:
- Friday – leave Christchurch late morning in a private bus full of
excitable and friendly MOA members. The theme for the bus
down is "Safari Trip", so feel free to don whatever costume you think is suitable for that! Costumes are optional of course, but you can get as silly as you like with this one. There will be some games and forfeits, and plenty of refreshment stops en
route to Dunedin. When the group eventually reaches Dunedin, there will
be a chance to meet our DCC hosts before retiring to rental
accommodation for the night.
- Saturday – things kick off bright and early with outdoor sports
(netball, touch, soccer, and tug-o-war) before a well-earned lunch
break. After lunch, the fun moves indoors for pool, darts, and possibly a
mystery sport which will be revealed on the day. The sports and games
are as competitive as people make them, but there is no pressure to be
particularly good at anything – just jump in and have fun! On Saturday
night our hosts are throwing a themed fancy dress party with food and
drink supplied. Saturday night is going to be a "1940s Community Hall
Dance Night", so get your glad rags on (or whatever you fancy) and come
and have a dance. Fancy dress is optional but definitely encouraged, and
if you do a good job you might even win a prize for it!
- Sunday – MOA and DCC meet for a farewell brunch and prizegiving,
before the MOA group hits the road again. The bus will be back in
Christchurch by Sunday evening, just in time to recover before going to
work as normal on Monday.
You do not need to be sporty or athletic to enjoy this trip. And of course if you are sporty or athletic you’ll enjoy it even more.
This trip is open to everybody and you do not need to be a MOA member to come along. However the non-member price is considerably higher and if you aren’t a member yet then it’s in your own interest to join up. Non-CCC staff can join as social members and enjoy most of the same benefits as full members.
Weekend trip costs
The cost is $40 per person for MOA members,
plus the cost of accommodation. Non-members pay the non-subsidised
price of $120 plus accommodation, so you are far better off joining if
you aren't a member already! You can still join as a social member even
if you do not work for CCC.
You can choose from these accommodation options:
- Single Room (double bed) $190
- Share Double or Twin Room $107
- Share Triple Room $87
- Dorm Bed $56 - shared bathroom
All single/double/twin/triple rooms have en suite bathrooms.
All prices are per person for the weekend.
Sign up at Annual Sports Weekend 27 - 29 September registration! You can pay your non-refundable deposit of $50 or pay the entire amount - we'd love to get the entire amount up front but if that doesn't work for you then just pay the deposit for now.
